Technique
Technique in badminton the ability to produce an effective shot. Not just play a shot but making it effective. This is crucial in order to beat your opponents. Once you have the ability to play consistent shots, the ability to play deception comes more naturally but it is important to first have a good idea of the basics.
FOOTWORK
Footwork, is the most important aspect in the game. If you can't get to the shuttle you have no way of playing the shot. In conditioning we mentioned footwork is the key to speed. Here we will explain how to move to reach the shuttle.
SERVE
The serve is the most important shot in the game, starting the rally. In doubles it is extremely important. A good serve will often gain you an advantage to begin the attack. Loose serves will often get pounced on so it is important to have a good consistent serve to gain the advantage.
REAR COURT SHOTS
Rear court shots are mainly played over head. These can be forehand or backhand and generally consist of the clear, smash and drop. There are many variations to these shots. all the rear court shots should have the same look up until the moment of impact. In other words the preparation is the same for each shot so there is an element of deception.
MID COURT SHOTS
Mid court shots can sometimes be a mixture of rear court and net shots depending on the height of the shuttle. More often in doubles you will see the mid court being utilised, particularly in mixed doubles. Drives and pushes are the main midcourt shots which you will see most often in doubles.
FORE COURT SHOTS
Fore court shots are shots played at the net. These include net shots and net kills. Net shots require good technique to caress the shuttle over the net. You can also add spin to the shuttle to make it more difficult for your opponent. Net kills are the most offensive shot in the game. They are normally a winning shot hitting the shuttle down into your opponents court from point blank range.
